Kidney shaped swimming pool
When I was younger, we used to play a board game called "Chutzpah". It was very similar to Monopoly, but Jewish. So instead of buying property, you got a hoo ha mah jong set. Instead of Jail, you landed in Tsoris. You really had to have played it to understand. Anyway, one of the things you could buy was a kidney shaped swimming pool. I never really thought about it until recently. We didnt have a pool growing up, even though I lived in Miami. I dont think I even realized pools had shapes. I just loved swimming so I enjoyed, never analyzed.
Today I am going to get tested to possibly donate a kidney. Not to someone I know, at least not on the earthly level. But I feel some weird connection to this guy. I read an email his son sent around through a yahoo group I belong to, and I KNEW without a shadow of a doubt that I MUST get tested. Not that I feel like I am without a shadow of a doubt the match, but that I had to get tested.
Naturally, when I replied to the email, I should have told my husband. After all, this is potentially life altering. But something in me made me hit reply and write "What is involved in testing?" before I even had a chance to think. So when I told my husband, he wasn't pleased.
Allow me to say that that is the understatement of this century.
This kidney thing became a topic at therapy yesterday, beginning with my husband's generalized statement that I have been making many decisions without consulting him. Very untrue dear husband. As you pointed out, I even ask you what linens to buy for the beds. That could account for why we havent gotten new linens. He and I dont agree on much. (Could this be a runner-up for the 'understatement of the century' award?)
Anyway, the therapist has analyzed, and quite correctly, that since, as an altruistic person by nature I feel my hands proverbially tied by not being able to help my parents with THEIR failing help, that I have turned to help this guy's father instead. I can take it even one step further and say I would like to show them that I CAN help if they would let me, just like this guy and his father are letting me. But honestly, I dont think that is the situation.
I think I am just nuts.
